Happy July 4th Weekend!

July 4th weekend is one of my most favorite weekends. It means summer is definitely upon us. The time off from work or school is always a plus. I love all the firework shows, flags flying proudly, friends and family gatherings and just pure joy on everyone's faces as we celebrate our country's freedom! These images from Pinterest make me smile and I had to share!

Happy 4th y'all!

Shh! It's A Secret

I found out the secret jewelers use to clean our jewelry or specifically, rings.

Ammonia. That's right Ammonia.

Just find a small glass, container, old jar of baby food whatever you can find and fill it up with 50% Ammonia and 50% water. Drop your jewelry into the glass for at least 30 minutes. You can leave it in over night or for 10 years and it will not damage the jewelry.

When you're ready to wear it. Remove your jewelry and rinse it off with fresh water. Dab it dry with a towel and use a Q-tip to rub over the diamonds or stones.

I did this last night with my wedding ring and let it soak for an hour. It looks SO sparkly and just like it would if I took it to the jeweler.

(Excuse the bad iphone photo but you get the gist)

My huge bottle of generic ammonia at Wal-Mart was $1.12.

I will be doing this nightly.

Maggie is Engaged! {plus} Happy Birthday to Kate!

One of my dearest friends, Maggie got engaged last week while traveling in Greece with her now fiance, Kostas!

We had dinner with the newly engaged couple on Friday night and got heard how Kostas proposed while they were in Santorini, Greece! Sigh. So perfect and dreamy, I know!

Maggie and I were sorority sisters, roommates for my last two years at Baylor University and first year out of college.

I think we met while sitting next to each other in this crazy sorority thing called pledge songs. She has always been such a sweet, loyal and thoughtful friend and I am so thrilled and excited to see her this happy!

It has been so great getting to know Kostas and I am SO very happy for these two! Congratulations Maggie and Kostas!

{plus} I have to give a quick shout out to my precious niece who turned 4 today! Happy Birthday sweet Kate! Auntie loves you!!

Poulet Au Vinaigre

David and I made this classic french dish last night thanks to a recipe we found on Skinny Taste. It was SO delicious, I had to share.

The recipe serves 4, so we halved it and it worked out perfectly! I highly recommend this dish!

Skinless Chicken Thighs w/ Shallots in Red Wine Vinegar (Poulet Au Vinaigre)
Servings: 4 • Serving Size: 2 thighs with shallot sauce • WWPoints+: 6 pts
Calories: 242.5 • Fat: 7.0 g • Carb: 11.0 g • Fiber: 0.3 g • Protein: 28.6 g

8 lean chicken thighs, skin removed
salt and fresh pepper
1/2 cup red wine vinegar (we used Sherry vinegar because we had it)
1 cup fat free chicken broth
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp butter
1 large shallot, thinly sliced (3/4 cup)
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/2 cup dry white wine
2 tbsp light sour cream
2 tbsp fresh chopped parsley

Season chicken with salt and pepper.

In a medium saucepan, combine vinegar, honey, 3/4 cup chicken broth and tomato paste. Boil about 5 minutes, until it reduces down to about 3/4 cup. Remove from heat.

In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat and add chicken. Cook on both sides, until brown, about 6-8 minutes. Remove chicken and set aside. Add the shallots and garlic to the skillet and cook on low until soft, about 5 minutes. Pour the sauce over the chicken, add the wine, remaining broth salt and pepper. Cover and simmer about 20 minutes until tender.

Remove the chicken, add sour cream and stir into the sauce (if sauce dries up, add more broth). Boil a few minutes then return chicken to skillet. Top with fresh parsley.

If you want to print the recipe, go to to the Skinny Taste blog by clicking HERE.

After this yummy dinner, David and I started working on a puzzle. Why you ask? Well, we have decided for one week not to turn on the TV. We felt like we were watching too much TV and wanted to challenge ourselves to do "other" things. So we are working on a 1,000 piece puzzle of Venice, Italy. Just add some BINGO and our home would look just like a retirement home.

But hey, that's okay! Right?

Dress like the Duchess

I would KILL to be able to dress like the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly called Kate Middleton. Just check out some of her recent looks.

Absolutely adore this Alexander McQueen ivory military coat Catherine wore to the Queen's birthday celebration held this past Saturday.

She looks stunning in this Jenny Packham dress at the ARK 10th Anniversary dinner held June 9th. I mean where is her waist?!?

She looked even thinner in this nude colored bandage dress while meeting President and First Lady Obama, but still so beautiful!

I just LOVE her!

Let's Get Crafty

Thanks to Pinterest, I am finding several crafty things I want to try on my own!

Love, Love these wine cork letters. I have collected quite a few corks over the years and think this is the perfect way to display them!

While we're on the subject of wine, how cool do these look?!? I think this would be so beautiful as a centerpiece.

Cute way to label your herbs with chalkboard paint!

Lastly, I love the look of these! I think this would be a super cute way to decorate for a shower or party.

So there's my crafty pinspiration! :)

Weekend Wrap Up

This past weekend was SO wonderful!

I had set a goal to organize our laundry room and pantry and even though I didn't take a picture, just trust me. It's 100% better. It feels so great now that it's all organized!

We also got in lots of play time with our girl, Layla. She's seriously such a sweet dog! She loves to sleep on her back and will sometimes run in her sleep. It's really funny to watch. She is also noticing her reflection in any kind of glass door or window and will have an intense stare down with herself. It's hilarious. I love how she lays by the door just to make sure we don't sneak out of the house without her knowing. :)

We enjoyed having some friends over for dinner on Saturday night. Bill, who had just finished taking the 2nd portion of the CFA exam brought over steaks and we provided the roasted asparagus and gourmet mac n' cheese.

Y'all, this mac n' cheese is to die for! Thank you Pioneer Woman. Click HERE if you like step by step instructions and pictures.

Or if you just want the recipe here it is.

Serves 6
Ingredients
■2 cups Macaroni
■4 Tablespoons Butter (Salted Butter)
■1 whole Medium Onion, Cut In Half And Sliced Thin
■5 slices Regular Bacon
■1/2 Tablespoon Bacon Grease (reserved From Bacon Slices)
*I forgot to keep the bacon grease and it was fine!
■1/8 cups All-purpose Flour
■1 cups Whole Or 2% Milk
*I used 1% milk and it was fine
■1/4 cups Half-and-half
■1 whole Egg Yolk, Beaten
■Salt And Pepper, to taste
■1/4 cups Grated Gruyere Cheese
■1/4 cups Grated Fontina Cheese
■1/4 cups Grated Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese
■2 ounces, weight Chevre (soft Goat Cheese)

Preparation Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cook macaroni for half the time of the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Fry bacon until slightly, but not overly, crispy. Drain on a paper towel. Reserve grease.

Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a skillet and then saute onions over medium-low heat for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown and soft. Set aside.

In a pot, melt 2 tablespoons butter (and add 1 tablespoon of the reserved bacon grease for good measure!). Sprinkle in flour and whisk to combine. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat for 1 minute. Pour in milk and half & half, then cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until thick. Reduce heat to low. Add salt & pepper to taste. (Do not undersalt!)

Beat egg yolk and drizzle 1/4 cup hot mixture into the yolks, stirring constantly. Stir to combine. Pour egg mixture into sauce and cook for another minute.

Add cheeses and stir until melted. Add onions and bacon and stir. Taste for seasonings and add more salt if needed. Add cooked macaroni and stir to coat.

Pour into a baking dish and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until sizzling and hot.

Yum. Yum. Yummy!!

I'm also growing increasingly obsessed with Pinterest. I will be posting about this tomorrow...stay tuned. I know you're on the edge of your seat and cannot wait 24 hours, but you must.

How to throw {two} parties...

We had a jam packed but super fun Memorial Day Weekend! My brother, Rhett graduated from the University of Arkansas back in December but he wanted to have his graduation party at our house on Memorial weekend. So we made plans and the date was set.

Then we realized it was also my nephew's 1st birthday! Since they live in New York and most of the family would be here in Dallas, we decided it would be perfect to throw his 1st birthday party the same weekend...also at my house :)

So everyone flew in on Thursday night. Friday, we baked the cupcakes and set up the house for a small 1st birthday party. Saturday morning was party time!

The theme was "What are little boys made of? Frogs, snails and puppy dog tails!"

Wesley and Kate having fun in Auntie's backyard.

The birthday boy getting his cupcake! It was yummy :)

After the party, we took everything down, cleaned up and set up for the graduation party on Sunday.

We put out all of Rhett's football memorabilia for our family and friends to see. He even had is Liberty Bowl and Sugar Bowl rings on display! Pretty neat!

Rhett with my parents!

Rhett graduated U of A with two bachelor degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology. He just started a year long internship with the Fellowship Church in Rogers, Arkansas in their college department. We are so proud of him!

It has been BEYOND fun going to Rhett's football games for the past 4 years.

I have had the privilege of watching him grow in many ways. He grew physically as you can imagine. He became stronger and faster with each year. He also grew in spiritual ways. He realized his position as a football player would open doors and allow him to serve the Lord in a unique way. He poured himself out into the community through countless FCA activities. He worshiped with the prisoners at Tucker Prison..

encouraged high school youth groups at the local churches...

and recently took a mission trip to Guatemala City.

His heart for the Lord and for His people is inspiring and I'm so proud to call him brother!

It was a pretty special weekend!
