An Arkansas Affair

We drove to Arkansas Friday night to see Rhett and the Razorbacks take on the Georgia Bulldogs. It was also Rhett's 21st birthday weekend so we were glad to get to be with him before he officially became an adult!

This was the first time we were able to tailgate before the game. In previous years everyone we knew had a son or brother on the team so they didn't have time to tailgate before heading into the stadium to see the team warm up. The kicker, Jeremy Davis has since graduated so he invited us to join his wife Shannon, his mom Kim, and his inlaws for a REAL SEC TAILGATE!

We were so excited to get to have a hotdog, chips and dip, fruit, all under the official Arkansas tent.

Being that the game was at night we still had some extra time to meet up with my Boss and his son at the Phi Delt House to hear the band they had hired. SO FUN!

The game was awesome...just didn't end up the way we wanted. Final score Georgia 52- Arkansas 41....such a high scoring game! Rhett got lots of playing time, I think he snapped 11 times!

The stadium was full and the crowd was just awesome. We were so loud at one point one of a Georgia offensive lineman jumped off sides because he couldn't hear the snap count!! yes!!!

We had a great time and can't wait to cheer on the team again when they come to Dallas Oct. 3rd to take on the Texas A&M Aggies...

Wedding Weekend

Well I have had my first official FULL WEDDING weekend. I picked up my mom on Thursday night and we started the first appointment after I got off work on Friday.

Appointment #1- Cake tasting at Lakeview Bakery in Rowlett, Texas
Recap: So yummy. Really good cakes. Very professional designs and staff. The price was a tad more than I wanted to spend but I trust this bakery to deliver great tasting cakes that look beautiful.

I also learned I only need 4 layers for the amount of people I am feeding cake to but I really wanted more height so we are looking at having the top layer set up on columns and fill the empty space with hydrangeas...stay tuned.

Friday night we went home, watched tv, and looked through the 20 bridal magazines I had for ideas.

Saturday
Appointment #2- Meeting/Consultation with Mockingbird florist

Recap: I really liked the florist. I felt like she was trying really hard to give me affordable ideas and still accomplish a dramatic look. Bottom line- she knows what she is doing, she has done it at both of my locations before, and she is close to my price range.

Appointment #3- Try on wedding gown for Mom and auntie Diane.
Recap: Mom cried when I walked out it the gown...so it's the winner. In efforts to keep this part as much of a surprise as possible that is all I will say. It is perfect for me and I am so glad the search has ended. I probably tried on over 30 dresses. Sorry no pictures.

Appointment #4- look for fabric for bridesmaid dresses and mother of the bride dress
Recap: We underestimated our time and felt a little rushed. We did find some beautiful fabrics at great prices. I would like to go back and take more time to look around. I don't really have any pics of this either since all I have is little swatches...

Appointment #5- Cake tasting at Bakery by George in Garland, Texas
Recap: Bakery by George is a little hole in the wall bakery in Garland, Texas that we have used, my friends have used, friends of friends have used for petifours, birthday cakes, doughnuts, pastries and some have used for wedding cakes. I don't know if we had an off day for the tasting but the cakes were very dry and to boot they were more expensive then Lakeview!! crazy to me. This is why you shop around.

Appointment #6- Dinner at Chuy's and watch the Arkansas Game
Recap: The food was excellent, the swirl margarita was even more excellent, and the victory over Missouri State was AWESOME! Way to go brother! (#59) We "watched" the game on the handy dandy iphone application from ESPN. Probably the coolest thing I have seen. It was live up to date play by plays and it even shows a football field and where the offensive team is on the field. Loved it.

Whew. We were tired!! We had a more lazy Sunday. Then hit a couple more appointments on Monday. I won't bore you with those...but just know it was full and fun. I really enjoyed having mom here for a voice of reason, input, and support. I was sad to see both mom and dad go but I will see them again in a couple of weeks..

Colorado Trip

David and I were able to slip away for a couple of days to go to my family's cabin the mountains of Colorado.

It was such a special time as it was my first time to see my parents since the engagement and several other family members. So the family gathered in a nearby park for a picnic.

We actually had 2 family engagements to celebrate! My cousin Taylor and his now fiance Stacia just got engaged not a full month after David and I! Taylor and I have entered all of life's stages together, we are only 2 months apart and went to Baylor together so it is only fitting to both be getting engaged!

Mom had this banner made for us at the picnic!

We also got to have David's mom for a couple of days.

We discovered my sweet niece love bugs...

And loves Auntie's sunglasses...

We had such a fun trip...if only it lasted a little longer!

7 Months Exactly

As you may have noticed, I have added a Wedding Countdown to the top of the blog. (Thank you Carla for the great idea!) I hadn't realized it until I did it but we only have 7 months left before the wedding!!! wow. It rocked my world for a moment. 7 months. I have a lot to do! But most importantly David and I have really enjoyed this time thus far. God has really taught us some incredible things about ourselves, about our relationship, and what He wants us to learn during this special time.

One of the many things is security. I have been really thinking through this word SECURITY. Sometimes this word takes other names, stability, success, safety, sanity, salvation. Over the past year now, I have been dealing with this sense of security. I have been focusing on securing my job, securing my finances, securing my future with David. But where does my help come from?

This past Sunday at Sunday school we were looking at Christ's High Priestly Prayer in John 17. He is praying for his disciples and says in the end of verse 11 and 12"Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me."

So that we may be one as they are one. It was Christ's desire to protect his disciples (me) and it was his greatest desire that they (we) become one with God the Father as He himself is one with His Father. If I am one with God like I should be, I will be protected and SECURE beyond all measure.

Our Sunday school teacher said he heard this said once. And I keep repeating it over and over, "Security is being nearest to the Lord not being farther from danger."

I feel I am working harder to put myself farther from Danger and not focusing on becoming nearer to God.

Hmm. Just a little something to chew on.
May your day be richly blessed!
